Group Hails FG As Terrorism Trials Gain Momentum, Over 500 Cases Fast-Tracked, Convictions Secured.
The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) have said the recent conviction of Boko Haram terrorists and the accelerated trial of over 500 suspects demonstrate the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to tackling insecurity.
In a statement signed by Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, the group described the development as a sign of fresh vigour in ensuring justice for victims of insurgency.
According to the group, more than 10 Boko Haram suspects have been convicted out of over 500 currently standing trial in Abuja, marking a shift from previous delays where cases lingered for five to seven years without resolution.
TMV noted that the ongoing phased trial now in its ninth round would enhance the speed of justice delivery, ensuring that those found guilty are duly punished.
The group also highlighted recent court rulings, stating that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced four Boko Haram terrorists to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government.
In addition, 14 other suspects were convicted and handed prison sentences ranging from 20 to 25 years on various counts.
The group described the convictions as evidence of the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen national security and restore public confidence in the judicial system through prompt prosecution of terrorism related cases.
TMV further noted that, in a bid to fast track the trials, the Federal Government, through the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, constituted a panel of 10 judges to handle the cases.
The Group also commended the judges for sacrificing their Easter vacation to focus on the terrorism trials.
