The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare, empowerment and wellbeing of women, particularly wives of police officers, describing them as the unseen pillars behind the nation’s security architecture.
Senator Tinubu stated this in Abuja at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Annual General Convention of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA).
Represented by the wife of the Minister of Defence, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, the First Lady reiterated the Tinubu administration’s unwavering commitment to empowering women across the country.
She noted that the resilience and sacrifices of police officers’ wives play a vital role in sustaining the morale and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DIG Bala Ciroma, commended POWA for evolving from a social support group into a formidable nationwide platform for humanitarian service, community development and welfare interventions.
On her part, the POWA National President, Mrs Mutiat Disu, spoke of the quiet, often unacknowledged sacrifices borne by the spouses of law enforcement officers.

The three-day convention, themed “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace,” attracted wives of heads of other security agencies, members of the Force Management Team, senior police officers and other key stakeholders.
