President Mohammadu Buhari has assured of his administrations support to the annual Science, Technology and Innovation Expo organized by the federal ministry of sciences, technology and Innovation as part of efforts to enhance the promotion of research, development and global competitiveness in Nigeria.
The President said this while declaring open a 5 day 2022 edition of the STI Expo in Abuja. Represented by the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, President Buhari urged researchers, inventors and innovators to leverage on the policies of the federal government on STI to showcase their talents to the world through commercialized innovations that will transform the economy. Buhari further commended the FMSTI for driving the STI agenda.
Earlier,in his welcome remarks,the minister of state, FMSTI, Mohammed Abdullahi said that the 2022 edition of the Expo is targeted at driving the STI initiative to contribute to the overall economic recovery and growth agenda of the present administration.
As expected,the occasion was attended by top government functionaries including development partners who in their presentation called for the entrenchment of STI in government programmes and policies.
The highpoint of the opening session was presentation of scholarship award to 3 best students that emerged winners of the 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Competition to study science related disciplines in any Nigerian university of their choice by president Buhari.
The theme of the Expo is “Sustaining National Economic Growth through Science and Innovation.
