Kanu’s Trial: Security Operatives Take Over Court As Journalists,Others Battle To Gain Access.

As expected, the premises of the Abuja federal high court is a beehive of activities as the trial of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kalu resumes. Early as 7am, security operatives from the Department of state service DSS and the police have condoned all roads leading to the court, manning strategic locations. litigants, journalists and other person’s were subjected to series of security check to gain access to the court,this is a list of accredited media organizations approved by the court management to cover the proceedings was already in circulation in the social media 24 hours before the hearing of the matter. Outside the court premises, Kanu supporters were seen chanting solidarity songs in support of the separatist agitator. Addressing journalists, their leader Peter Basil noted that Kanu is the only leader they know and will do everything to support his separatist agitation. They were later dispersed by police men who threatened to shoot them if they refuse to leave the location. It will be recalled that Kanu was on June 20, returned back to the Nigeria for continuation of his trial, after he was reportedly arrested in Kenya. He was subsequently docked before the trial Justice Binta Nyako on June 29 and was remanded in custody of the DSS till today when his trial was scheduled to commence. Kanu is standing trial on allegation bordering on treasonable felony but it is expected that the federal government will file more charges against him following his jumping of bail and rearrest.
