The Defence headquarters says it’s troop of Operation Safe has arrested a notorious kidnapper Halilu Umaru who is on the wanted list of security agents. Umaru was arrested around Mangu market in Mangu local government area of plateau state. At a news conference to abreast Nigerians of the Armed Forces operational efforts in various theatre of operations across the country from 3-16 June 2021, the acting Director, Defence media operations, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko said assorted arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspect. He added that Umaru alongside other suspects including a chadian leader of a criminal syndicate in the north east known as Mohammed Maki also arrested by the troops have been handed over to appropriate agencies for further actions. The Defence spokesman also touched on the onslaught by troops of operation Hadin Kai. The activities of troops of operation Hadarin Daji where it’s air component neutralized scores of armed bandits and destroyed structures used as their hideout including arrests of criminal gangs involved in kidnapping and other related activities by troops of operation whirlstroke were also spotlighted at the briefing. General Onyeuko further gave Indication on how operations of the Independent people of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network involving several attacks on police stations and killing of security operatives were subdued in the period under review. While applauding the troops for their resilience and unrelenting commitment, the Military high command assured of the armed forces resolute to take decisive and adequate actions to further abate terrorists and bandits’ activities as well as other vices across the Country.
