The Defence Headquarters has debunk insinuations of mass retirements of senior officers of the Nigerian Army sequel to the appointment of the Chief Of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya. Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General, Bernard Onyeuko who disclosed this at a press conference to update Nigerians on the strides recorded by the Armed forces from 20th May to 2nd June 2021 said retirement in the Military for senior officers is on voluntary basis. He said the Military High Command is yet to authorized the retirement of any senior officer of the Army for retirement. Meanwhile, an update on the Operations of the armed forces indicates intensified operations ein the fight against terrorism, banditry, hoodlums, militancy and other sundry crimes across the geo-political zones of the Country. According to General Onyeuko, series of clearance patrols, ambush, raid, picketing, cordon and search operations and artillery bombardments triggered neutralization of scores of terrorist, repelling of bandits attacks, recovering of ammunition and rescue of kidnapped victims among others. The acting Director, Defence media operations further highlighted successes recorded by troops in the North Central zone. He said several illegal refining sites along with numerous reservoirs and polythene bags of illegally refined oil products were immobilized by troops in the South south zone. While applauding the efforts of the Armed forces and other security agencies for their resilience and dedication the military high command assured Nigerians that it remains resolute to take decisive and adequate actions to abate terrorists and bandits’ activities in the country.
