Nigeria Needs More Forensic Experts To Tackle Insecurity- Onu
The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu says Nigeria has all the resources at its disposal to overcome the current security challenges in the country.
He also made case for support of forensic experts in providing evidence needed to prosecute crime.
Dr. Onu said this when he received the President and members of the executive council of the Chartered Institute of Computer Forensics of Nigeria in his office in Abuja.
A signed statement from the office of the Deputy Director and Head of Press and Public Relations in the ministry indicates that the Minister is of the view that the application of cyber security will go a long way in reducing malpractices and fraud in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and the Organised Private Sectors (OPS) in the country.
“Nigeria wants transparency in governance to eliminate all fraud in all government activities and in the private sector, which will help to reduce crime in the country” he said.
He further made case for Nigeria to produce more forensic experts that would help in providing evidences for prosecuting crimes, adding that the gesture in the near future will help the nation provide assistance to other countries.
He said that Federal Ministry of Science and Technology will work through the Executive Order 05,to help create jobs and wealth for a prosperous nation.
Earlier, the President / Chairman of Nigerian Computer Forensics Institute of Nigeria Prof. Peter Olayiwola said the visit was informed by need to seek the ministries support for the quick passage of the chartered computer forensics bill.
