This gathering is to validate the gender policy document of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to add bite in the enforcement of its mandate. NAPTIP in its desire to eliminate all forms of gender discrimination collaboration with the UN Women developed the gender policy to guide and mainstream gender in all its operations to ensure fairness and equity in the discharge of its mandate. This is inview of the UNODC 2018 global report on trafficking which indicates that 35percent of detected victims of trafficking for sexual and forced labour are females. Speaking at a one day stakeholders validation meeting on NAPTIP Gender Policy and implementation strategy in Abuja, it’s Director General Dame Juli Okah-Donli said it is to institutionalise gender in the operations of the agency. She further revealed some of the agency’s gender responsiveness.
