The Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) has suspended it’s earlier call for Northerners residing in the South Eastern part of Nigeria to return home due to the killing of nine northerners and destruction of their properties in the region.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the NCM president,Comrade Awwal Aliyu says the suspension was due to the intervention of the Abia State Governor, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu who apologized on behalf of the state.
Aliyu also indicated that the governor has paid compensation for the lives & cattle lost as well as other properties carted away by the Gun men.. While calling on the Northerners who have returned home to go back and continue their lawful businesses, Aliyu urged the Governor to keep to his promises and provide the needed security.
Aliyu further had a word of advise for the Anambra State Governor elect, Prof. Charles Soludo and other sociocultural organizations like OHANEZE NDIGBO to caution their youths to stay on the part of honor for a peaceful coexistence.
It could be recalled that the group on February 17th, 2022 issued an order calling on Northerners residing in the south east to return to the North in order to avert a reoccurrence of the circumstance that led to the killings and destruction of their properties.
