The courtesy visit to the Defence ministry and Naval headquarters was to solicit their support for the take off of the proposed national Research and Development foundation. Leader of the delegation and Executive Secretary Tetfund, Prof Suleiman Bogoro who led the funds R and D committee on defence and security said the foundation when established will be the largest funding research body in Nigeria. Bogoro who noted that most developed countries have a foundation for supporting R and D and Nigeria cannot be left behind said the proposed initiative will be of great benefit to the defence sector.
In their separate responses, the Minister of Defence, Maj. General, Bashir Magashi (retired) and Chief of Naval staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas commended Tetfund for the massive transformation of the Nations tertiary institutions.
The fund is hoping that the proposed R and D foundation will be established in the next 9 months.
