TCN Restores Lagos Supply, Announces Planned Maintenance In Abuja, Effurun
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored bulk electricity supply to affected parts of Lagos following a temporary outage caused by severe weather, while also announcing scheduled maintenance activities that will affect electricity supply in parts of Abuja and Delta State.
According to TCN, bulk power supply to sections of Lagos was disrupted on Tuesday after a rainstorm accompanied by heavy lightning triggered the tripping of the Olorunsogo-Ikeja West and Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission lines.
The company said its engineers restored supply to the Ikeja West Transmission Substation at 5:28 p.m. through the Ikeja West-Omotosho 330kV line, with full restoration to all affected injection substations supplying the Ikeja and Eko distribution networks achieved by 7:27 p.m.
Meanwhile, TCN has scheduled annual preventive maintenance on a 100MVA power transformer and associated switchgear at the 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation in Abuja on Wednesday, October 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive electricity for distribution to customers in parts of Wuse II, Maitama, Life Camp and surrounding areas during the maintenance period.
In a separate notice, TCN said it will carry out planned maintenance at the Effurun 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Delta State on October 28 and 29 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily.
The work is intended to facilitate the safe commissioning of a SERGI fire protection system on the 100MVA 132/33kV Transformer (T2) by EPC contractors.
The company stated that some Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) 33kV feeders, including Refinery 1 & 2, Effurun, PSLM and Warri feeders, will experience brief power interruptions of about 20 minutes to enable essential switching operations.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience to affected customers and reiterated its commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient bulk power transmission network across the country.
