The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, is considering the introduction of critical thinking and life skills assessments into its examinations to evaluate candidates beyond their academic performance.

The board says the proposed reform is part of efforts to improve the admission process, enhance transparency and reduce the stress candidates experience.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, disclosed this while outlining ongoing reforms at the board, explaining that the initiative is aimed at identifying candidates’ abilities beyond conventional academic testing.

He said a committee headed by renowned psychometrician, Professor Nwoka, had already been inaugurated to examine the possibility of incorporating the assessments into JAMB examinations.

On the harmonisation of examination timetables, Aina said the measure is intended to ensure that results are released within the timelines required for university admissions, helping to make the admission process more efficient.

The registrar stressed that the reforms are not intended to alter existing policies but to optimise them for a better candidate experience.
He described the initiatives as a consolidation of previous achievements rather than a complete rebranding of JAMB, while acknowledging the contributions of his predecessors, particularly the immediate past registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
