ADC Yet To Recover From Collapse Of Opposition Coalition – TDF
The Democratic Front (TDF) has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of resorting to what it described as “spurious allegations” against President Bola Tinubu following the collapse of the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group dismissed claims by the ADC that President Tinubu was behind the creation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to weaken opposition parties.
TDF described the allegation, reportedly made by ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, as “disgraceful and embarrassing,” arguing that it contradicted previous accusations by the opposition that the President was attempting to impose a one party state.
The group said the latest claims reflected what it termed the ADC leadership’s inability to conduct opposition politics with decorum and responsibility.
According to the statement, Nigerians were already tired of what it called false narratives allegedly being pushed into the public space to gain sympathy and political support.
TDF maintained that the collapse of the opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had exposed what it described as the internal contradictions within the ADC and allied opposition figures.
The group argued that the ADC leadership spent more time attacking President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of strengthening internal party structures ahead of future elections.
It further claimed that disagreements among opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, contributed to the breakdown of the coalition arrangement.
According to TDF, the opposition coalition was weakened by alleged power struggles and the failure to uphold agreements reached during political consultations in Ibadan aimed at presenting a consensus candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The group insisted that President Tinubu had no involvement in the internal crisis within the ADC and urged Nigerians to disregard the allegations against the President.
TDF also described members of the opposition coalition as politicians more interested in power and political office than national development.
The group urged Nigerians to remain focused on governance and ignore what it called attempts by opposition figures to create unnecessary political tension in the country.
