FCT Poll: INEC, Peace Committee Deepen Collaboration On Election Security.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Peace Committee (NPC) have strengthened collaboration to ensure security and peaceful conduct of the forthcoming FCT Area Council election.
The renewed partnership was sealed when members of the Peace Committee paid a courtesy call on the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, and other senior officials at INEC Headquarters in Abuja.
Prof. Amupitan described the visit as timely, noting that the Commission had concluded consultations with security agencies, political parties, civil society and the media as part of preparations for the election.
He said 2026 is also a critical preparatory year for the 2027 General Election, stressing the need for proactive measures to address emerging security risks.
The INEC Chairman commended the Committee’s Election Security Information (ESI) Hub for providing data-driven analysis, including the identification of potential flashpoints in AMAC, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Bwari Area Councils.
Speaking earlier, Executive Director of the Kukah Centre, Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo conveyed the goodwill of the Committee’s leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peaceful elections in the FCT and beyond.
Both parties expressed confidence that with sustained collaboration, the FCT election would be conducted peacefully and credibly.
