The Inter Party Advisory Council IPAC has thrown its weight behind the Saturday 5th October Rivers State local government election.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, IPAC National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle condemned the conflicting court orders in support and against the local Government election in the State and forum shopping by desperate politicians to procure court orders that will subvert the nation’s democracy.
Dantalle who warned against such trend, said the Council will not fold its hands and allow political merchants to trade away the nation’s hard-earned democracy using the judiciary as a cover.
The Council insisted that the Saturday Rivers State council election will go on as scheduled and called on the electorates to turn up en masse and vote for candidates of their choice.
The Council further called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to thoroughly investigate and sanction erring Judicial Officers allegedly used to truncate the nations Electoral process.
IPAC leadership however called on States that are yet to conduct local government elections to do so as the era of caretaker committees at the local councils in Nigeria is over with the recent Supreme Court landmark judgement.
