ECOWAS Speaker, 3 Regional Legislators Bag Maiden AWALCO Merit Award

It was a day of reward by the Association of West African Legislative Correspondents, AWALCO, to some regional lawmakers who distinguished themselves in terms of commitments, dedication and quality policy direction to deepened democracy as well as enhance the standard of living in the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

The award given to the parliamentarians is also aimed at spurring other lawmakers to take the regional legislative business seriously as representatives of the people. The four lawmakers to be honoured by the group of regional journalists are the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis from Sierra Leone, Hon. Awaji Abiante of Nigeria, Gambian Hon. Fatoumatta Njai and Hon. Vilane Abdoulaye of Senegal.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Speaker Tunis in an emotion ladden voice commended the association for its wonderful initiative of rewarding excellence.

Earlier, the President, AWALCO, Innocent Odoh urged the parliamentarians to take their jobs seriously for the interest of the community.

The annual AWALCO award is a Key Performance Indicator to rate the performance and contribution of every member of the community parliament for the overall growth and development of the region.
