ECOWAS Defence Chiefs Meet In Abuja,Condemn Coup d’etat In Niger.

This is a gathering of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff in West Africa convened in response to the recent Political development in Niger. Republic.

Addressing the Defence chiefs from the various ECOWAS sub region at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja,the Chief of Defence Staff and President of the ECOWAS Committee of CDS, General Christopher Musa condemned the illegal takeover of power in Niger as enshrined in the Subregion 2001 Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

General Musa who indicated the urgent need to restore democracy in Niger, expressed the commitment of the Defence chiefs to democracy, intolerant for unconstitutional changes of government and dedicated to regional stability.

In his remarks, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Amb. Abdel-Fatau Musah emphasised reasons why the trend of coup d’état must be checked at the sub region.

The Extraordinary Meeting attended by 10 Chiefs of Defence Staff from the ECOWAS subregion is expected to strategies on modalities for restoring constitutional order in Niger Republic.
