As part of efforts to challenge students to solve complex problems and think outside the box, the Ministry of Defence in Collaboration with the National Mathematics Centre organised the Maiden Edition of the Armed Forces Secondary Schools Mathematics Olympiad .
Speaking at the grand finale of the Olympiad at the National Defence headquarters in Abuja,the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Kana stated that mathematics is critical to the Nations Security and prosperity.
He said the future of the Nation depends on the quality of education especially as it affects nation building.
In his remarks,the Director General, National Mathematical Centre, Prof. Promise Mebine said Mathematics play a critical role in education and problem solving and has contributed greatly to technological advancement.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of Awards to the first 10 best performing students across Armed Forces Schools in Nigeria.
