Governorship: INEC Releases Timetable For Bayelsa, Imo And Kogi Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States slated to hold in November 11, 2023.
INEC Chairman Prof, Mahamood Yakubu, disclosed this at the third quarterly Inter agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja.
He added that the Committee will continue to appraise the security situation in the Country and it’s possible impact on the conduct of elections.
Prof Yakubu while commending the efforts of the Security Agencies on the peaceful conducts of Osun and Ekiti, Governorship elections, disclosed that, in effort to curb the menace of worrisome practices perpetrated during elections that ICCES has extended its membership to include the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.
He further gave analysis on the recently suspended Continuous Voter Registration, after cleaning up of the commission’s data base.
On his part, the National Security Adviser and co- chair of ICCES, Maj Gen, Babagana Munguno,(Rtd) said he observed the violent dimensions of electioneering campaigns among some politicians which he says may pose a threat to the smooth conduct of the 2023 election.
Represented by Sanunsi Galadima, NSA, assured that the security Agencies are working on counter measures to stem the rising wave of violence.
Meanwhile, ICCES said it will continue to share information with security agencies and work together to ensure that elections hold peacefully nationwide as scheduled.
