Just In: Nigeria To Declare Emergency On Agricultural Sector- FG

In the early 1960s, Nigeria’s agricultural sector was majorly the main source of revenue generation for the country. But that narrative quickly changed in the 1970s with successive governments in the most populous black nation in the world turning their attention from agriculture to oil as the biggest sustenance of the economy. In 2015 President Muhammadu Buhari declared his intentions to diversify the economy by paying more attention to agriculture as the key driver of the process. True to his promise, the Nigerian President formulated policies that impacted positively in the sector thereby making the country self sufficient in rice production for the first time in recent times. The Executive Director, Department of Rural Development, Ministry of Agriculture could not over emphasised the role of technocrats in actualising President Buhari’s vision in the sector.
