The First Deputy Speaker, ECOWAS Parliament, Idris Wase says the border closure by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2020 was not targeted at any member nation but for the seek of national security.
Honourable,Wase who doubled as the Speaker, Federal House of Representatives in Nigeria expressed dismay over comments by parliamentarians suggesting that President, Muhammadu Buhari deliberately took the decision to impede on the ECOWAS protocols on trade and free movement of goods and persons.
He further, urged the member nations to be grateful for the border shutdown as it turned out to be a blessing to the region.
The Plenary session however, came to a close with an assurance for a more robust deliberation that will enhance the fortune of the member states.
