The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned maintenance exercise at its Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja, which will result in a temporary power outage in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the company, its maintenance crew will carry out routine preventive maintenance on a 100MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
TCN said the exercise is part of efforts by its engineers to undertake scheduled preventive checks on the transformer and related equipment to ensure their efficient operation.
As a result of the maintenance work, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive power supply from the substation during the six-hour period.
Areas expected to be affected by the outage include Wuse Zones 1 to 7, the Sheraton Hotel, the Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and neighbouring communities.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers in the affected locations for the inconvenience the scheduled outage may cause and appealed for their understanding while the maintenance exercise is carried out.
