The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has received two new 100MVA power transformers for installation at the ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina, marking another milestone in the company’s grid expansion programme.

The transformers were delivered on Thursday, July 9, 2026, as part of TCN’s strategic efforts to strengthen the national transmission network and improve bulk electricity supply to Katsina State and the wider North-West region.

According to TCN, the transformers are critical components for the completion of the substation. Upon installation, testing, and commissioning, they are expected to increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160MW.

The company stated that the completion and energisation of the new substation will enhance the reliability, flexibility, and efficiency of power transmission. It will also improve TCN’s ability to evacuate additional bulk electricity to the Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and neighbouring areas.

The Katsina Transmission Substation is one of several infrastructure projects being executed by TCN across the country as part of ongoing efforts to expand, modernise, and reinforce Nigeria’s transmission network to meet the nation’s growing electricity demand.
