INEC,NIMC Strengthen Partnership To Eliminate Duplicate Voter Records

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it is strengthening its partnership with the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, to eliminate duplicate voter records and improve data verification ahead of future elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this while receiving the Director-General of NIMC, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Professor Amupitan said the collaboration follows the signing of the National Identity Management Commission Act, 2026, which he described as a major milestone in efforts to build a more secure, credible and transparent electoral system.

He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to working closely with NIMC to strengthen voter registration and enhance the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

In her remarks, the Director-General of NIMC, Engineer Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the newly enacted NIMC Act, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would enhance the Commission’s capacity to provide reliable identity management services and support national development.

Both INEC and NIMC expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership would improve Nigeria’s digital governance architecture, enhance the credibility of future elections and boost public confidence in the electoral process.
