TCN Plans Maintenance In Abuja, Ongoing Kano Line Outage
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned maintenance exercise in Abuja and provided an update on an ongoing transmission line outage in Kano, both of which are affecting electricity supply to customers in the two locations.
In a statement, TCN said its maintenance crew will carry out scheduled maintenance on the 150MVA Power Transformer 2 and associated switchgear at the Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja on October 31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The company said the maintenance work will prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from taking power from the substation for onward distribution during the six-hour period.
Communities expected to be affected include Kubwa PW, Dutse Makaranta, Ushafa, Jere, Jiwa, parts of Suleja, Kaduna Road, Sabon Wuse, Dikko, Zuba, Madalla, Dakwa, Tunga Maje and surrounding areas.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause affected customers.
The company also disclosed that the 132kV Kumbotso-Dan’Agundi Transmission Line in Kano has remained out of service since 10:28 a.m. on October 29, 2026, to allow completion of erection and stringing works on Road Crossing Tower 27 for the Dan’Agundi Flyover Road project.
According to TCN, the outage is expected to continue until October 31, 2026, resulting in power interruptions in parts of Kano metropolis and neighbouring communities served by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
To reduce the impact on customers, the company said some feeders are being transferred from the Dan’Agundi Transmission Substation to the Dakata and Rimin Zakara transmission substations where feasible.
TCN said both the planned maintenance in Abuja and the ongoing outage in Kano are necessary to support the safe operation and improvement of transmission infrastructure, and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to electricity consumers in the affected areas.
