The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced rehabilitation works on Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi-Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line following recent acts of vandalism.
During an inspection of the project site, the Regional Manager, Engr. Nasir Bello, represented by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr. Ubani Raymond, said the visit was aimed at ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and facilitating necessary adjustments where required.
Dr. Raymond said substantial progress had been recorded on the project, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled and the tower bases recast in preparation for reconstruction.
He also called on residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and help protect critical power infrastructure from vandalism and other criminal activities.
Speaking during the inspection, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the importance of continuous monitoring to ensure adherence to engineering standards and maintain the quality of the rehabilitation works.
He commended TCN management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the project but noted that difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed progress.
Also, the Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and praised the contractors for their commitment to completing the project promptly.
The rehabilitation is expected to restore the integrity of the affected section of the transmission line damaged by vandalism.
