Qatar Charity has expanded its field office in Abuja as part of efforts to scale up major development and social welfare programmes across Nigeria, including an ongoing $10 million integrated housing project in the Federal Capital Territory.
The expansion was disclosed during a courtesy visit by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to the humanitarian organisation’s headquarters in Doha, where he held discussions with its Executive Vice President and Global Programs Officer, Nawaf Abdullah Al-Hammadi.
The talks focused on strengthening Qatar Charity’s long term development activities in Nigeria, with particular emphasis on sustainable interventions designed to provide communities with access to essential services beyond immediate humanitarian relief.
A key project under the initiative is the Gaduwa housing development in Abuja, an integrated scheme combining residential units with an on site health clinic and school.
Yakubu welcomed the expansion, saying the Nigerian Embassy was committed to facilitating diplomatic clearance and inter agency coordination to support the implementation of similar integrated development projects in other parts of the country.
“Qatar Charity has demonstrated a genuine and practical commitment to the well being of Nigerian communities,” Yakubu said.
He stressed the importance of combining housing with access to essential social services, noting that “housing alone is not enough; access to basic healthcare and education must go hand in hand.”
According to the ambassador, the partnership would contribute to development outcomes in Nigerian communities while also strengthening the broader relationship between Qatar and Nigeria.
