Nigeria’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Thursday presented his Letter of Credence to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at the Amiri Diwan, officially assuming his diplomatic responsibilities.
The credential presentation ceremony, held on July 2, 2026, was conducted with full state honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour.
During a private audience after the ceremony, the Amir warmly welcomed Ambassador Yakubu and reaffirmed the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Qatar.
He recalled previous high level exchanges between the two countries and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Yakubu conveyed the condolences of the Nigerian government and people over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City. He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Qatar in key sectors, including trade, investment, education, security, and humanitarian affairs.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both countries to further deepen diplomatic ties and enhance collaboration for mutual benefit.
