Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully repelled a midnight assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area, Borno State.
The attack occurred around 12:20 a.m. on August 10, 2026, when a large group of insurgents attempted to overrun the base. According to the military, troops engaged the attackers with sustained firepower, forcing them to retreat with heavy casualties.
Several insurgents were neutralized, and military forces recovered weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment left behind at the scene. Surveillance footage captured the retreating insurgents carrying away additional dead and wounded fighters. The recovered items and video footage are currently undergoing operational assessment.
During the initial phase of the assault, the attackers temporarily breached a section of the perimeter defenses. Rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) fire damaged several combat enablers and military vehicles, leaving a few soldiers injured. The wounded personnel were evacuated by air and are currently in stable condition receiving medical treatment.
Military forces have reinforced their positions in and around Gajiram to secure the area, monitor further developments, and prevent follow-up attacks. Ground exploitation and assessments of the area remain ongoing.
Security officials urged residents of Gajiram and nearby communities to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency or via the designated intelligence line at 07084988859.
Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining operational pressure against ISWAP to ensure long-term stability across the North East.
