China Commemorates 2025 Women’s Film Festival, Calls For Global Action
The China women’s film festival is commemorated annually to promote women’s rights as well as raise awareness of gender inequality through film and art.
The occasion also provides a platform for female filmmakers to showcase their work, encouraged collaboration and exchange between Chinese and International filmmakers.
The Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Zhou Hongyou who represented the Ambassador, Yu Dunhai at the unique event organised by China Cultural Centre in Abuja said women’s roles in the development of society cannot be overstated.
He said women as mothers, sisters and daughters are not only the foundation of families and societies, but a vital force driving social development and progress.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim and the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Gabriel Zock, spoke on the significance of the celebration to the existing bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the Peoples Republic of China.
The Director, China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Yang Jianxing said the films convey the resilience of Chinese women and people which is similar to that of Nigeria.
The Chinese women’s film festival coincides with the renewed global reflection of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a landmark framework that shaped three decades of global advocacy for women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment.
