Senator Shehu Buba Umar (APC-Bauchi South) has officially entered the race for the Bauchi State governorship, submitting his nomination form following extensive consultations with political stakeholders.
The lawmaker, popularly known as “Mujaddadi,” confirmed his candidacy shortly after formalizing the process. This move follows a public declaration of interest made during a media interview last week.
Consultations and Ambition
Speaking with reporters after the submission, Senator Umar stated that his decision to vie for the state’s top office was not made in isolation. He emphasized that the move was the result of wide-reaching dialogues with party leaders and constituents across Bauchi State.
”My decision came after wide consultations and an earlier public declaration of interest. I have since been working through the formal steps required to contest,” the Senator noted.

Senator Umar, a native of Nabordo village, represents Bauchi South in the 10th National Assembly. His professional background spans education, the private sector, and high-level political advisory roles:
- Education: Holds a Bachelor’s degree from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Conflict, Peace, and Resolution Management from the University of Jos.
- Executive Experience: Previously served as a Special Assistant to a former Governor of Bauchi State and as a Special Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Community Impact
Beyond the Senate, Umar has built a reputation for grassroots development. His “Mujaddadi” moniker is tied to his involvement in local infrastructure projects, including the provision of boreholes, road construction, and agricultural support for farmers. With the submission of his nomination form, Umar is set to be a major contender in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Bauchi governorship.
