The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested seven suspects and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and stolen property across multiple coordinated operations targeting kidnappers, terrorists’ logistics suppliers, and “one-chance” robbers.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, disclosed these achievements during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters on Friday, June 5, 2026. He attributed the breakthroughs to digital forensic analysis, strategic intelligence, and critical partnerships with well-meaning residents.
Viral Video Suspects Apprehended in Zuba
Following the circulation of social media videos showing individuals in military camouflage brandishing AK-47 rifles and walkie-talkies, the CP ordered an immediate forensic investigation.
On May 25, 2026, at approximately 3:22 a.m., operatives from the FCT Police Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Sector 5 and the Zuba Division raided a hideout in Runji Village, Zuba. Three suspects featured in the videos were arrested: Umar Babangida (25), Adamu Yeti (22), and Yahaya Idris (24), all residents of Rijana, Kaduna State.
Police recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, eight mobile phones, two jackknives, and power banks. The suspects confessed to obtaining the weapons from their gang leader, identified as “Esco,” who remains at large.
Cameroonian National Arrested for Murder and Fake Kidnapping
In a separate development, police cracked a case involving the murder of 22-year-old Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, who was reported kidnapped on April 21, 2026.
Using digital reconstructive intelligence and collaborating with the Benue State Police Command, FCT operatives tracked and arrested a Cameroonian national, Emmanuel Acha Leku (32), and his girlfriend, Kazan Vincent, in Adikpo, Benue State.
Investigations revealed that Leku lured Chukwuemeka to a mountainous area in Lokogoma and murdered him following a dispute over the sharing formula of proceeds from a fraudulent scheme. To cover up the crime, Leku used the deceased’s phone to demand a N5 million ransom from the victim’s family. The suspect was attempting to flee to Cameroon before his arrest. The victim’s decomposing remains have been recovered and deposited at Sahad Hospital, Apo, for an autopsy.
Arms Supplier to Terrorists Intercepted
On June 2, 2026, strategic intelligence led to the arrest of Yau Sule along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. Sule, a resident of Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, had been on the Command’s wanted list since 2023.
At the time of his arrest, officers recovered 81 rounds of 7.62mm live AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG).
Sule’s arrest led operatives to apprehend his sister, Maria Sule. She is married to Buhari Shuaibu, a notorious bandit leader currently at large. Police confirmed that Maria was actively involved in supplying ammunition to her brother for onward sale to terrorist and bandit networks operating across Kaduna, Niger State, and the FCT border communities.
’One-Chance’ Robbers Nabbed After Highway Chase
The Command’s anti-crime patrol team attached to the VCRU rescued a young lady along the Giri-Lugbe road on May 15, 2026, after she was robbed and abandoned by “one-chance” operators.
Operatives gave hot chase and intercepted the fleeing blue Volkswagen Golf (Reg No: SKK 567 AG), arresting two suspects: Muhammed Muhammed (22) and Muhammed Saidu (20). A laptop, an iPhone, a laptop charger, two knives, and a pair of scissors used in the operation were recovered from the vehicle.
Call for Public Vigilance
CP Sanusi reassured the public of the command’s commitment to proactive policing and a safer capital territory. He urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities to nearby stations or through the official FCT Command emergency lines.
