Highlighting a “proven track record” and a vision for legislative continuity, the Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo has officially submitted her expression of interest and nomination forms, formally entering the race for re-election.
The Senator, who previously served as a Deputy Governor, framed her bid as a commitment to the “Renewed Hope” agenda of her party.
Addressing the historical marginalization of women in political appointments, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo expressed confidence in her party’s structures and its favourable stance toward female leadership.
“My trajectory in politics has always been one of continuity and consolidation,” the Senator stated.
“We are creating more avenues for women to demonstrate that they can play a very positive role in governance.”
She pointed to the influence of the nation’s First Lady herself a former distinguished senator as a testament to the significant roles women can occupy within the current political landscape.
A Mandate Based on FeedbackSpeaking to a large gathering of supporters who accompanied her to the party headquarters, the Senator noted that her decision to run was prompted by widespread calls from her constituents.
She cited various congresses and conferences held across the local government areas where stakeholders urged her to return to the Red Chamber.
The lawmaker emphasized that her legislative priorities, including bills and public hearings, have consistently been driven by direct feedback from town hall meetings.
”I want to assure my constituents of my unwavering commitment to your development, progress, and visibility,” she said.
“Whatever gains we have made so far, we are going to consolidate on them if given the opportunity to do even more.”
