Defence Minister Musa Reaffirms Nigeria’s Support for MNJTF in Chad Summit

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has pledged the nation’s continued support for collective security efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and stabilize the Lake Chad Basin.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Defence Ministers from Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Musa emphasized that sustained collaboration is essential to addressing cross-border threats. The high-level talks, held under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), included representatives from Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Benin.

Strategic Review of Operations

The summit served as a strategic platform for regional leaders, intelligence chiefs, and military commanders to evaluate the effectiveness of the MNJTF. During the sessions, the Ministers reviewed reports from the Chiefs of Defence Staff and security agencies regarding current operational dynamics.

Key topics of discussion included:

  • Operational Effectiveness: Assessing the success of ongoing missions against insurgents.
  • Resource Management: Addressing funding constraints and force deployment strategies.
  • Evolving Threats: Analyzing new security challenges emerging within the region.

Collaborative Leadership

In a closed-door session, participants engaged in candid discussions regarding the logistical and financial hurdles facing regional military efforts. Despite these challenges, the delegation expressed a unified front in the fight against terrorism.

General Musa commended the Republic of Chad for its leadership within the MNJTF framework and for hosting the delegation. The participating ministers also extended their appreciation to the President of Chad and Chairman of the LCBC Summit for his role in advancing peace initiatives across the region.

The meeting concluded with a renewed mandate to strengthen intelligence sharing and operational synergy among member states to ensure long-term stability in the Lake Chad area.
