Dr. Esther Nkem Okereke has emerged as the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement, NRM, for the 2027 general elections.
Okereke secured the party’s ticket at the NRM presidential primary held in Abuja after emerging as the only aspirant cleared by the party’s screening committee.
Although five aspirants initially indicated interest in the race, four were screened out.
In her acceptance speech, Okereke painted a grim picture of the nation’s challenges, saying Nigerians are living in pain, poverty, fear and uncertainty.
The NRM presidential candidate described her ambition as more than a political campaign, calling it a “national rescue mission” aimed at restoring competence, integrity, patriotism and purposeful leadership.
Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of the NRM, Prince Chinedu Obi, described the convention as a defining moment and a national responsibility aimed at rescuing Nigeria from insecurity, poverty and poor governance.
