The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will issue official access codes to all registered political parties on Friday, June 26, 2026, to enable them access the Candidate Nomination Portal for the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this at the second quarterly consultative meeting with leaders of the 22 registered political parties held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to Professor Amupitan, the access codes will allow designated national officers of political parties to upload the names, personal particulars, and other required information of nominated candidates.
The INEC Chairman also briefed party leaders on the Commission’s decision to appeal a recent Federal High Court judgment concerning the scope of its powers to prescribe timelines for electoral activities.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Yusuf Dantalle, highlighted challenges encountered by political parties during recent primaries conducted ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He cited concerns over provisions of the Electoral Act Amendment 2026 and called on the National Assembly to review the legislation to address identified deficiencies.
Other key outcomes of the meeting include INEC’s commitment to ensuring that next month’s Ekiti Governorship and other bye elections are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.
