The national leadership of Accord has endorsed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in the August 15 governorship election, citing his administration’s performance and urging residents to vote for continuity.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Accord described Adeleke’s tenure as transformative, arguing that his achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, workers’ welfare and social services have earned him the mandate for a second term.
The party said the governor’s inclusive style of governance and developmental projects have improved the welfare of residents and accelerated the state’s growth despite what it described as attempts by “anti-democratic forces” to frustrate his administration through the withholding of local government allocations.
According to Accord, Adeleke has demonstrated the leadership capacity to sustain development and complete ongoing people oriented projects if re elected.
The party also expressed confidence that the governor would secure victory at the polls, describing Osun as an Accord stronghold and attributing its optimism to what it called widespread public support for the governor’s administration.
Accord, however, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain neutral and impartial throughout the electoral process, stressing the need for a free, fair, credible and transparent election.
It urged the electoral commission to ensure that every valid vote counts, describing the sanctity of the ballot as essential to public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The party also warned against vote buying and other forms of electoral inducement, urging voters not to exchange their votes for financial or material benefits.
Accord further described the Osun governorship election as a major test of INEC’s preparedness for the 2027 general election, calling on the commission to adequately test its electoral materials and avoid operational lapses.
“The integrity of INEC is at stake,” the party said, adding that the commission has an opportunity to strengthen public confidence by conducting a credible and inclusive election.
Accord urged all stakeholders to ensure that the outcome of the poll reflects the will of the people and contributes to deepening Nigeria’s democracy.
