APM Commends Nigerians Over Pressure On Buhari To Sign Amended Electoral Bill

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) says the signing of the Electoral Act 2022 by President Buhari has brought fresh air in the nation’s electoral process essential for participatory democracy in Nigeria.

The party in a statement signed by it’s National Chairman,Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle said despite the initial impediments, the new electoral law has paved way for free, fair and credible elections in the country.

“The introduction of full electronic voting system guarantees one man, one vote in every election. It eliminates rigging and all forms of electoral malpractices that characterized the nation’s democratic encounter”.

“Aware that their votes will henceforth count, Nigerians will be motivated to participate actively in various elections which will further deepen and strengthen our fragile democracy. Credible aspirants for political offices can now come up to contest elections conscious that infamous godfathers and political buccaneers masquerading as democrats will not hijack the electoral process, subvert the people’s mandates and impose their stooges for their personal aggrandizement” Dantalle added.

The party called on INEC to quickly release the timetable for the 2023 general election and use the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun governorship elections to test run the electronic voting system to pave way for hitch free polls in 2023.The nation’s democracy is gradually taking shape. We will continue to consolidate on this remarkable progress in our political process.
