The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has canceled general cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions. This is as the 2021 policy meeting held virtually at the Board headquarters in Bwari Abuja further gave individual institutions freedom to set their individual minimum benchmark for admission. Highlights of this development according to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede indicates that some ivory towers such as the University of Maiduguri proposed 150, Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto 140, Pan Atlantic University 210, University of Lagos 200, Lagos State University190, Covenant University190, Bayero University Kano, 180 among others with the list of the proposed cutoff marks by individual institution peg at 120. The Stakeholders also adopted the 2021 admission guidelines, which provide that all applications for part-time or full-time programmes for degree, NCE, OND, and others must be posted only through JAMB. Oloyede further gave a summary of the 2020 admission breakdown. Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu while declaring the policy meeting open , commended the board for the mandatory use of National Identification Number, NIN, in the registration process for the UTME. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, Adamu said the policy has drastically reduced examination malpractice in the 2021 examination. Track up He further raised concerns over illegal admissions being conducted by some tertiary institutions threatening that there would be consequences. Other highpoints of the meeting includes exemption cover for prison inmates, visually impaired and foreign candidates from sitting for post UTME exercise. October 29, 2021,deadline was also fixed for closure of amendments for the 2021 admissions.
