The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services to appear before it and explain why the 12 detained associates of Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho should not be granted conditional or unconditional bail. Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order while ruling on a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the activists challenging their detention. In an exparte application argued by the plaintiff counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi the court was informed that the 12 associates of Igboho were arrested during DSS’ raid on his house in Ibadan on July 2 and have been kept without access to their lawyers and family members since then. The judge noted that in view of the urgency of the case that further hearing of the bail application will be determined on July 29 and that the applicants should be produced in court on the adjourned date. Speaking to journalists after the court proceedings, the plaintiff counsel expressed joy over the judge’s verdict. It will be recalled that at least a dozen of Igboho’s associates were arrested and detained by DSS after a bloody raid of Igboho’s residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
