FG Rolls Out New SIM Replacement Policy.
The Federal Government says it is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure a seamless process that will get all Subscriber registrations linked with their National Identification Numbers. (NINs) To this end, a Ministerial Task Force under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Pantami set up a Technical Committee charged with the responsibility of operationalization of the process to ensure an expedited linkage of all SIM Registration Records with NIN. In a joint press statement signed by Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde Director, Public AffairsNCC and Kayode AdegokeHead, Corporate Communication, NIMC, the committee is made up of representatives of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); National Identity Management Commission (NIMC);The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON); and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). However, inline with the Committee recommendations, a new SIM Replacement Policy has been approved for Subscribers whose SIMs have been lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged subject to conditions indicating thatthe subscriber present a NIN which will be verified by NIMC as well as ensuring relevant Guidelines and Regulations of NCC concerning SIM Replacement are fully adhered to. The policy the statement added is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce the burden on subscribers and simplify the exercise. It is also aimed at enabling telecommunications service users who need to replace their damaged, stolen or misplaced SIMs to re-establish access to telecom services.ReplyForward |
