As the world gradually slide into the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the Nigerian Medical Association has expressed worry that ongoing concerns for vaccine access internationally is yet to be intensified in Nigeria. This is as the association further raised serious concern over the flagrant disregard for the non pharmaceutical preventive protocols and warning efforts at containment of the scourge. These were some of the highlights of the NMA National Executive Council meeting held in Awka, Anambra state capital. According to the NMA President, Prof Innocent Ujah, the challenge of medical tourism, emigration of highly trained doctors abroad, difficulties faced by its members in accessing the Central Bank Of Nigeria 100 billion naira health intervention Fund among others also top agenda of discuss at the meeting. As part of solutions to address the challenges in the health sector,the medical body charged the federal government on need to commence negotiation on the 2019 collective bargaining agreements even as it vowed to continue to engage relevant stakeholders to achieve the implementation of the extension of the retirement age of medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria to 65 years.
