TCN Announces Six-Day Power Disruption In Nsukka, UNN, Other Areas For Substation Tests
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage affecting Nsukka, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and other areas from November 5 to 10, 2026, to enable pre-commissioning tests on equipment at the Nsukka–New Haven 132kV Transmission Substation.
In a notice issued on November 3, 2026, TCN said its contractor would carry out Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) pre commissioning tests on substation equipment as part of efforts to prepare the facility for operation.
According to the company, the exercise will be conducted in phases over a four day working period, with power interruptions restricted to areas directly affected by the work at any given time. Other areas will continue to receive bulk electricity supply.
TCN clarified that there would be no planned outage on Sunday, November 8, and Tuesday, November 10, although work on the project would continue.
During the exercise, MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) will be unable to supply electricity to customers served by the Nsukka 132kV Substation, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as the Orba and Sumas 33kV feeders on the affected days.
The transmission company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the planned exercise might cause.
