TCN Restores Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Line, Announces Planned Abuja Power Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line after completing the reconstruction of three transmission towers that collapsed earlier this month, even as it announced a scheduled maintenance exercise that will disrupt electricity supply to parts of the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring communities.

In a statement on Wednesday, TCN said Towers T78, T79 and T80, which collapsed on 7 October following heavy rainfall and strong winds, had been successfully reconstructed.

The company said restoration work was completed at 5:31 p.m. on 28 October, re-establishing the transmission route serving the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Stations.

The restoration is expected to improve power supply to areas served by the affected transmission corridor after weeks of disruption caused by the tower collapse.

Meanwhile, TCN disclosed that its maintenance crew will carry out annual preventive maintenance on the bay switchgears and associated equipment of the Katampe-Gwarimpa 132kV Line II at the 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Station on Thursday, 29 October, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive power for distribution to customers in parts of Kubwa, FO1, Gbazango, Byazin, Byazin Across, Dutse Alhaji, Dutse Makaranta, Ushafa, Bwari and surrounding communities.

Parts of Suleja, Kaduna Road, Sabon Wuse, Dikko, Madalla, Zuba, Dakwa and Tungan Maje will also be affected during the six-hour maintenance window.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience to electricity consumers, stating that the maintenance exercise is necessary to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of the transmission network.

The company reiterated its commitment to strengthening critical transmission infrastructure and improving the stability of bulk electricity supply across the country.
