The Federal Government says it is renewing efforts to reposition the teaching profession through improved training, stronger professional standards and digital skills development.

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, stated this at the 2026 International Teachers’ Day celebration and award ceremony organised by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, in Abuja.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, Dr Angela Ajala, the minister said ongoing reforms are aimed at strengthening teacher education and equipping educators with the skills needed to meet the changing demands of the classroom.

Professor Ahmad commended COEASU for awarding scholarships to outstanding NCE students across the six geopolitical zones, describing the initiative as an investment in the next generation of teachers.

Earlier, COEASU President, Dr Ahmed Lawan, and other speakers called for improved salaries and allowances for teachers, well-equipped laboratories and better infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning across the education system.
