Major Projects Under Tinubu Counter Claims Of Northern Neglect- TMSG
The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has rejected claims that the President Bola Tinubu administration has neglected Northern Nigeria, citing ongoing infrastructure projects and major federal investments across the region.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, the group said the North had continued to benefit from both projects inherited from the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and new initiatives launched under Tinubu.
TMSG said several major infrastructure projects inherited from the previous administration had recorded progress under Tinubu, while new roads, rail projects and interventions in healthcare and transportation were also being implemented across the region.
The group identified the $2.8 billion, 614-kilometre Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline as one of the key projects with potential economic impact on Northern Nigeria.
According to TMSG, the project was 95 per cent complete as of August 2026, following measures taken by Tinubu to address bottlenecks affecting its implementation.
The group said the pipeline was designed to supply gas to industrial clusters along the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano corridor and support industrial and economic activities in Northern Nigeria.
It also cited the Kano-Maradi and Kaduna-Kano railway projects as other major infrastructure initiatives progressing under the Tinubu administration.
TMSG said the Kaduna-Kano railway was scheduled for completion in December 2026, while the 284-kilometre Kano-Daura-Katsina section of the Kano-Maradi project was also expected to be commissioned in December.
It added that the final stretch of the railway to Maradi in the Niger Republic was expected to be completed in 2027.
On projects initiated by the Tinubu administration, the group described the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway as one of its largest infrastructure projects.
The highway, according to TMSG, is designed to connect Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo and Lagos states as a trans regional economic corridor, with construction ongoing on several sections.
The group also listed the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano dual carriageway using reinforced concrete pavement technology and the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road among projects being executed in the region.
Beyond transportation infrastructure, TMSG said the administration was implementing healthcare projects across the North, including the expansion and upgrading of major facilities such as Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, as well as more than 1,000 primary healthcare centres.
It further said President Tinubu had approved more than N2 trillion for intra city light rail projects in Kano and Kaduna as part of efforts to modernise public transportation in the region.
The group also pointed to activities of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), which it said had announced projects worth more than N1.5 trillion across the geopolitical zone.
TMSG maintained that the scale of ongoing and planned investments contradicted claims that the Tinubu administration had abandoned Northern Nigeria.
“We are convinced that similar projects are going on in the other Commissions in Northern Nigeria, which were all established by the President Tinubu administration,” the group said.
The statement urged Nigerians in the North to scrutinise claims of neglect against the administration, arguing that available project records showed continued federal investment in infrastructure and other sectors across the region.
