The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Aisha Garba, has described Delta State’s technology driven teacher attendance system, Attend360, as a model that could be adopted by other states to strengthen accountability and improve learning outcomes.
Garba spoke in Asaba during a courtesy visit to the Delta State Government House as part of activities marking the 30th Quarterly Meeting of UBEC Management with Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards, SUBEBs.
She said the platform, which tracks teachers’ attendance, demonstrates how technology can address one of the major challenges in basic education by ensuring that teachers are present and actively engaged in classrooms.
Garba also urged Delta State to position itself to benefit from the education component of the HOPE Education Programme, a World Bank supported intervention with up to 500 million dollars earmarked for education.
She said states seeking to participate must access the 2026 matching grant and implement at least 50 per cent of their 2025 Action Plan.
Responding, Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who represented Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, assured UBEC that the state would continue to invest in education and improve access to quality learning.
As part of activities for the quarterly meeting, UBEC management and SUBEB chairmen from across the country also visited the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, where the Commission sought the traditional institution’s support for the effective delivery of basic education in Nigeria.
The meeting, themed “Repositioning Basic Education in Nigeria to Optimise Investment and Impact,” is focused on improving investment, innovation and implementation in the basic education sector.
