Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has met with civil society organisations to fine tune security arrangements for the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The meeting, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, brought together representatives of key civil society organisations, including CISLAC, YIAGA Africa, the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Kimpact Development Initiative, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Partners West Africa and the CLEEN Foundation.
The groups highlighted concerns over voter safety, political violence, misinformation and the participation of vulnerable groups, while offering recommendations aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
Responding, the IGP assured the delegation that the Police would give serious consideration to the issues raised and implement measures to address identified security concerns.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to professionalism, impartiality and neutrality throughout the electoral process, adding that adequate personnel would be deployed across polling units in Osun State.
Disu called on political actors, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support efforts to deliver a peaceful, transparent and credible election, while urging continued collaboration with the Police through timely intelligence sharing and responsible public communication before, during and after the poll.
