GGSS Dukawuya Students Tour TCN Kumbotso Transmission Substation, Gain Practical Power Sector Experience
Science students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dukawuya, Kano, visited the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation on August 4, 2026, as part of an educational excursion aimed at exposing them to real world electricity transmission operations.
The visit, hosted by TCN’s Kano Sub Region, provided the students with practical insights into the nation’s power transmission system, complementing theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom.
During the tour, TCN engineers took the students through the electricity transmission process, explaining the functions of major substation equipment, control room operations, and the safety procedures observed across the transmission network.
The interactive session also enabled the students to engage directly with the engineers, ask questions, and gain first hand knowledge of power system operations.
The excursion enhanced the students’ understanding of Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure while inspiring greater interest in careers in science, engineering, and technology. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and industry in nurturing the next generation of technical professionals.
TCN said the initiative aligns with its commitment to promoting technical knowledge, engineering excellence, and capacity development.
The company noted that by providing students with opportunities to experience real world power transmission operations, it is contributing to the development of the skilled workforce needed to sustain and strengthen Nigeria’s power sector.
