Nasarawa Funding N100% Infrastructure Projects on Federal Roads Without Loans, Says Gov. Sule
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has clarified that the ongoing construction of the Mararaba Interchange and several other major road projects in the state are being 100% funded by the Nasarawa State Government without taking loans from financial institutions.
Speaking on the clarification following public misconceptions regarding project ownership, Governor Sule explained that the Mararaba Interchange is located on a critical federal highway connecting Abuja to Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Taraba, Benue, Enugu, and other eastern states.
Governor Sule noted that while it is understandable why members of the public might assume the project is a federal initiative due to the nature of the road, the state government took on the financial responsibility to ease movement and improve safety for commuters.
He expressed hope that the Federal Government might consider refunding the state upon completion.
The governor listed other key federal road projects currently being undertaken or completed by his administration, including the dualization project in Lafia, as well as road interventions in Akwanga and Keffi.
He attributed the state’s financial capacity to execute these capital-intensive projects without debt to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, which have significantly increased revenue allocations to state governments.
According to Sule, despite the majority of commuters on these arterial federal roads coming from other parts of the country, the Nasarawa State Government remains committed to completing them for the overall benefit and development of all Nigerians.
